A letter from Gabriel Wabuti, Hospital Administrator - January 2006
We had the first Board Meeting this year in Nairobi on 14 January, for planning activities in 2006. All the Board Members were present, as was the general secretary & presiding clerk of Friends United Meeting. We received the news that the Government seconded doctor will arrive any time in Kaimosi because the paperwork is complete at the Ministry of Health offices.
The main medical problems are obstetric complications, caesarian sections and assaults leaving fractures, long stays in the ward due to immunosuppression by HIV/AIDS (especially for the low & medium income working class) and preventable deaths due to problems of stigma and lack of ARVs. Some unusual medical problems include a lady with typhoid and malaria; a case of penile necrotic ulcer; and one of cerebral palsy. Many of these clients/patients were too poor and we had to release them without payment.
We have no financial support yet to do rehabilitation of buildings, and no means of transport to do referrals.
And we in Kaimosi Hospital are waiting at the Lord Jesus' time. We have not despaired yet! We thank God for these lessons.
Dr. David Lugaria It was reported in the Nairobi Meeting that he had resigned abruptly while on leave and it is rumoured that he intends to join Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital - one of the elite Government health facilities in Eldoret. No reason was given. He may have lost the vision to continue serving in mission hospitals.
Theresa, thank you once more for what you are doing for us. Greeting to Mr. Watts & the rest of Friends in the U.K.
